WHALES, SAILS AND SCRIMSHAW by Martha Matheu

WHALES, SAILS AND SCRIMSHAW

By

Pub Date: March 15th, 1973
Publisher: Young Scott

A slightly easier and, unfortunately, much less exciting visit to the era When Nantucket Men Went Whaling (1966). Matheu does throw in an introductory discussion on how whales eat, breathe and raise their young and, at the end, reports on the creature's near extinction; but otherwise this reads like a deadpan rewrite, minus the colorful language, local specifics and photos of actual scrim-shaw carvings.
