WHY DO YOU LOVE ME?

As they walk the family dog, a little boy interrogates his dad: ""Do you love me because I'm strong?. . .because I'm kind?. . .because I'm brave?"" ""Yes,"" his dad says, ""but be careful."" So it goes, until Dad admits that he loves the boy as much when he's naughty as when he's good. Then, ""Why do I try to be good?"". . .""You tell me."" ""Because I love you too."" Very wise indeed, and arrived at with admirable tact. Meanwhile, in the warm, tidy, square illustrations, the boy has led Dad a merry chase and even fallen out of a tree. A didactic book, but one that makes its point with disarming good humor.
