Fuchs was formerly Schuschnigg's personal aide and is now head of the Hapsburg Refugee Bureau in Paris, so he speaks from personal knowledge in giving a detailed account of the Austrian annexation to date. Not likely to be widely read, since it competes with many more important books on the subject, and is sharply limited in its range. He starts with 1935, outlining the various political groups; he introduces his main figures, Schuschnigg and Schmidt. Then follows an almost day by day record of political ententes and machinations, with verbatim reports of conversations with Hitler and Mussolini -- and the inevitable outcome. Good background book, but not easy reading.
