BEYOND DIET: The 28 Day Metabolic Break-through Plan

Sound advice--but a recycling of the author's 200 Calorie Solution (1982): how to effect permanent weight loss by readjusting the body's metabolic rate. Katahn, Director of the Vanderbilt U. Weight Management program, once again explains the body's physiologic operations in regard to food intake--and how a sluggish metabolic rate can be increased dramatically by increasing exercise along with caloric intake. (The process is familiar to readers of recent, enlightened weight-loss guides.) His previous gimmick was to suggest that readers increase their exercise output by 200 calories a day; here, through something called the ""AC/DC Formula"" (""Accent complex Carbohydrates and use them to substitute as often as you can for foods Dense in Calories""), Katahn also concentrates on improving dietary habits--though this is not a low-calorie regimen. Complete daily menus are set out, with recipes; serf-evaluation and progress charts abound (when food is consumed is crucial); detailed exercise advice is provided. (Minitrampolines are endorsed--but with the proper cautions.) Katahn has mastered the requisite diet-book prose style, so though this plan is complex and requires application, it can be readily understood. Worthwhile, then, for those who missed it the first time around.
