THE DAY KHRUSHCHEV FELL

Publisher: Hawthorn

Martin Page gives an ""unashamedlv journalistic"" rundown of the events leading up to, on, and following October 15, 1965. He also describes the careers of K and his successors Brezhnev and Kosygin, whose incumbency moved the USSR from the ""age of flamboyance"" to the ""age of faceless managers."" He shows how K might have retired in official honor, but how he insisted on his right to face the Central Committee, reveals the attitude of the people after the fall (they scarcely moved a muscle) in the USSR, the satellites, China. The policies which spelled out the removal, the methodic erasure of K's image (from world-famous national figure to an ""unperson"") are also covered. Basic, satisfactory.
