LILY AND THE SERGEANT

Sgt. Harold Paulsen, permanent army and stationed near New Orleans, has never had a friend- or a girl- and he is a lonely little man for whom the future holds nothing-except perhaps a transfer to Hawaii. Lily Forbes, who has run away from home and is hostessing in the Blue Lagoon, is as shy and lost as Harold, and together they can pool their unwanted existence. Harold thinks of leaving the army and studies to get a high school diploma; Lily, with hopes of singing she can never realize and then of modeling, finally realizes that Harold belongs in uniform- and goes away.... Once again (The Girl in the Spike Heeled Shoes) a gentle but unblinking portrait of graceless. loveless lives- and it's kind of bedraggled.
