JONATHAN CROW, DETECTIVE

Although this detective story involving animals contains much nature lore which is interesting, it suffers from the use of a fictional device. A coy and lifeless cops and robbers situation accompanies each episode, depriving the essentially interesting situation of its force and turning the potentially fascinating wildlife characters into creatures of embarrassing incongruities. This is particularly to be lamented since Mary Adrian writes of nature with unusual knowledge and sympathy.
