An unusual mystery for second and third year readers. Nine-year-old Toby O'Connor with the help of Sparks, a fire house dog, tracks down a firebug who had been setting fires in Toby's neighborhood, the East Side of New York. When his grandfather was accused of setting a fire. Toby begins his detective work which leads him into back alleys, the stores of his neighbors and the fire house itself. Although the unfortunate placing of the villains in the same linguistic group is an unpleasant element, this is a well developed mystery for this level. Readable type and grown-up format with cloth binding.
