THE HIDDEN SPRING MYSTERY

Paul and Sue Gray's house in Connecticut is the setting for a patterned mystery, for 8 and 9 year olds, that begins when they find notes saying the place is haunted and then see a prowler. Detection leads to the culprit- their young gardener Ollie's Uncle Charlie whose antique hijacking has threatened to keep Ollie from college but in all it is a disappointingly hackneyed affair. The author's other books too are marked by forced writing, as if characters and situations were cut from pasteboard.
