And there's a shortage of unbridled imagination too. In versified form, a little girl assisted by friends and dolls demonstrates the game of house, with variations on the basic theme. The verses are well written--short, smooth, convincingly childlike phrases flow naturally into rollicking rhymes. According to the jacket copy ""this is a book full of playing-house ideas."" All this ""mother"" does for amusement is to blithely imitate the most mundane housekeeping chores. The ideas most children naturally come by are much more fun than that. The author has written What Jim Knew (1963) and others.
