WINNER AT THE DUB-DUB CLUB

Slip in a roadster or two, and this could be a vintage pulp. Tennis ""natural"" Gary Williams, 15, is trounced and jeered at on a city court by rich, obnoxious Hal Hampton. A providential bus-boy job at Hal's country club, Whispering Woods, gives him a chance to polish up his game; but as soon as Hal and his clubchairman father see Gary as a threat in the upcoming junior championships, they contrive to trip him up in one grossly obvious way or another (the fiction-fixated author even has him spilling soup on Hampton Senior at a banquet). Out of the club and out of the competition, he hooks up by chance with the public-courts team--and comes back to dear old Whispering Woods to outplay Hal in the finals. Now: shall he take a job coaching on the public courts next summer or return at Hampton Senior's shameless behest to the club? You guess.
