FAST AND EASY NEEDLEPOINT

Hodgson and Paine's lessons might be a bit structured for some--each stitch is introduced via a ""learning design"" to be completed en route--but their method does have the advantage of starting beginners right off with a manageable project, and their use of the programmed textbook's psychology--small steps and frequent reinforcement--insures success. Altogether there are eleven stitches and eight projects; these are followed by suggestions for making your own designs, examples of other kids', pointers on blocking and finishing, and measurements for items (belt, eyeglass case) which readers can now create without step-by-step instruction. Alas, only the cover is in color, but this could add to the fun of seeing how each exercise turns out.
