YOUNG TEENS AWAY FROM HOME

This is one in the series Mrs. Beery has been perpetuating ever since Manners Made Easy (1949), Young Teens Talk It Over (1957) and Young Teens Plan Dates and Proms (1962). Questions go to an infallible Univac called ""Club 700"" for reply. It goes like this: If you're getting on a bus in a strange city, what should you do? ""Have the right change ready."" Of course any brighter young one might wonder just what the right change was and Club 700 has told him never to talk to strangers which leaves him----. Sometimes Univac is just hard to follow, let alone understand. Here it's interpreting eating in a foreign home: ""If they ate fried grasshoppers, I just couldn't."" ""If table prayers are different, follow along..."" ""Be yourself. Don't try to be different."" ..... These young teens may be spending a day away, at a ball game or an art gallery, or travelling, or at boarding school or camp, and this will brief them on clothes and packing them, tipping, travelling on various facilities, writing home, visiting friends, eating, etc.. ""What do you do if you get cornered by an older person who talks on and on?"" Club 700 says ""I sit there and say, 'That's right. Yep. Uh huh.'"" Uh huh.
