SEBASTIAN (SUPER SLEUTH) AND THE BONE TO PICK MYSTERY

Once more canine Sebastian, the real brain behind his master John's crime-solving as a police detective, out-guesses and out-sniffs the humans on a case while bristling at being treated like a dog. In this episode, as Professor Harbart Idelmann is digging up woolly mammoth bones on the outskirts of the city, someone is breaking into the Bosworthington Museum, apparently stealing nothing but leaving smudgy, red-mud footprints. Only Sebastian puts these two occurrences together, discovering that the museum mammoth bones taste like plaster of paris and then, right in front of TV cameras, digging up one of the professor's finds and forcing John to notice the little holes and numbers on the planted bone. To accomplish this Sebastian must disguise himself in John's raincoat and then in John's mother's fur coat (""how could she?"") to get into the museum, and masquerade in a tuxedo as the maitre d' while spying on the professor in a French restaurant. (Sebastian himself is, of course, quite a gourmet.) Stolen museum bones are indeed a fossilized subject for easy-reading mysteries, and Christian's readers may find the humans dumber than usual in this case; but no doubt Sebastian's established underdog appeal will carry the adventure.
