Containing over 500 illustrations (sketches and photographs) this 300 page volume is a graphic commemoration of an era of overland travel by steam engine. Accompanying the portraits is a commentary dividing the volume into chapters along geographical lines and the settings for the representation, of the development of the steam locomotive range from covered railway bridges in Vermont to the domain of the Southern Pacific R.R. A book that is a recording of a romantic time.
