KIRKUS REVIEW

Mary Cunningham hacks competently into the familiar with 17-year-old Julie Sheldon as heroine and storm center. In befriending an orphaned Hungarian refugee, Julie becomes involved in a search for an emerald and diamond necklace. There is a terrific California canyon fire to flee from and (in time honored tradition) a neighboring college man to flee to. By the adventure-strewn way, Julie also finds a career goal in journalism. It's a soupcon of mystery spiced with a few eccentric characters in the usual upper middle class setting for a standard teen-age novel.
