THE NEW HOW TO KEEP HOUSE

By

Pub Date: May 22nd, 1968
Publisher: Harper & Row

This revised edition of the earlier issuing (1961) will probably plunge a sizable number of housewives into deepest gloom. If you are one who arises in the morning to the crisis of finding two shoes that match; whose kitchen table sports throughout the day specters of peanut butter and jelly, this Stern Daughter of the Voice of Cleanliness is not for you. If a woman does not serve up a full breakfast in the morning, she does not deserve a house and family, saith Mrs. Gillies: organize, and all the little details of daily housekeeping (including dry mopping the bedroom) will fall into place. To be sure, the author has probably accumulated the most extensive and thorough household procedures ever gathered in hard-cover, and for the neophyte this could be an invaluable guide, provided that the reader will recognize an ideal when she sees it, and strive to merely approximate on individual terms, not fulfill. New sections dealing with apartments, latest cleaning supplies, fabrics, appliances, vacation houses, etc. add to this over-whelming guide to the perfect Living Machine.
