KIRKUS REVIEW

How Broody Hen lays five eggs, keeping the last one for herself, how she sings it a ditty while hatching, how she feeds the new chick and then, when it requests a story, how she tells--of a Little Chick who becomes a Broody Hen and (in the very same words) lays five eggs, keeping the last one for herself. The old circular-tale format makes a neat device for working in some reading reinforcement, but it will only work with the docile sort of child who can tolerate the slow start and babyish matter.
