KIRKUS REVIEW

Short simple story of Catskill mountain folk, principally Gwennie, who loves her birthplace, its legends, and family history and into whose life comes Russell, with an automobile, with his background of outside towns, and with the desire to marry her. They quarrel -- she defies him and sends him away -- only to find unhappiness in the job she has taken to fill her time in town. Her employer frightens her in his lovemaking, and she runs home, lost and defeated, to find Russell bringing her safety and love. Concentrated, highlighted, a nice job.
