By

Pub Date: May 22nd, 1978
Publisher: Rawson--dist. by Atheneum

A professional, by-the-numbers guide to the financial world, addressed to the frequently special needs of single, married, widowed, or divorced women. The authors provide practical advice on virtually all aspects of making, spending, investing, and keeping money. In discussing investment opportunities, for example, they include Treasury bills and fixed-income securities issued by little-known federal agencies as well as common stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Also covered are the pros and cons of tax shelters, real estate, retirement plans, insurance, and passbook savings accounts. In addition, there are step-by-step explanations of workaday realities--establishing and protecting credit, budgeting income and outgo, dealing with brokers and bankers, choosing a place to live. . . unto drawing up wills. There are separate chapters with tips for widows and divorcÉes, plus material on prenuptial property agreements and the rights of unmarried couples. ""Among other things, marriage is a business arrangement,"" the authors point out. This sort of no-nonsense pragmatism is typical of their recommendations. Written in layman's terms, a valuable manual for affluent or indigent females.
