THE SOUND OF THE WEIR

. . . in the tinkling of an ear and out the other is the story of Ann, who at fourteen, was used to testify against her cousin Miranda -- accused of sending her much older husband to a watery grave. Years later Ann too abandons a young love to marry much older Mr. Hales only to wonder whether he had known the murdered man -- whether indeed he might still be alive. Just a ""faint plop"" under all the moonlight and starshine but at least it's a story she won't have read before.
