O'DONEL OF DESTINY

This book is badly balanced. It is the story of Hugh Roe O'Donel, destined from birth to be king of Ireland. Imprisoned by the British, frustrated in every direction, scheming escape several times, and finally successful. He is crowned king and joins O'Neil in fighting the soldiers of Queen Elizabeth, and finally meets death in Spain. Historically accurate but unconvincing in the picture of O'Donel, whose greatness never comes through. Too little space given to actual feats; too much to preparation; background excellent; characters thin.
