KIRKUS REVIEW

Under the heading ""Immigrants"" comes uncommonly explicit history of the American black settiers, the country's shaky finances and U.S. complicity therein and the advent of Tubman and socioeconomic progress; ""Africans"" surveys tribal life and customs, and finally ""Liberians"" and ""Liberia Today"" close the gap, filling us in on the ""political dynamics"" of one-party rule. Excellent, and it is the only one.
