PATCH

Publisher: Doubleday

A boy and dog story in Kentucky countryside. Lively, likeable brothers and their neighbor and friend, Sara, achieve a notable loyalty to a new dog named Patch. Their affection and trust are now shared by crotchety Mr. Rankin who blusters to the point of forcing the boys to tie up their dog. He does engaging tricks, does Patch, and has charm and personality and enough fallibility to make him credible even to the most suspicious. He chews the wrong rope for the right reasons- he saves the wheat crop when he barks at weird night noises from the field. He gets his liberty as a result of saving Mr. Rankin's field. Picnics- fun- interesting stuff on moths- good bridging book for 7 to 10, hard to please.
