AMERICA FOR ME

Mary Margaret wrote the autobiography of a Missouri childhood in How Dear To My Heart. How she has written a small book, big in its implications and significance for the average American who cannot (or will not) read profound treatises on the meaning of democracy but who can go along with what it is to be an American in terms of our cities and towns, homes and jobs, food and friends. All this is woven into a loosely patterned, homespun philosophy of one American, raised in Missouri and living in a New York penthouse, dreaming dreams of a farmhouse with a summer kitchen. This has more fragments of autobiography; it has interesting hits of history; it has all sorts of odd anecdotes of people; it has her answers, as an American to the questions asked of our immigrants; it has the hops of an America that contains the ingredients of a greater democracy, worth fighting to save for the future towards which we are still growing. And it's written in the friendly human spirit well loved by her radio audience the country over.
