There isn't a boy who would miss this -- it even starts the way boys like stories to start -- with a minimum of description and explanation and a little danger and excitement even on the first couple of pages. Peter, from Salt Lake City, Utah, visits his uncle's ranch for the summer and his cousin, his own age, is a good pal with whom he can explore and adventure. Although the exploits and experiences are as exciting as those of any Western, it is the quiet dignity and heart-held and simple ideals of a Mormon household that pervade the entire book. A little of the inspiring history of the Mormon pioneers, a wild horse that becomes his very own -- this too is part of Peter's summer.
