SALVATION HISTORY AND THE RELIGIOUS LIFE

With this work Father Hinnebusch continues the exploration of the scriptural and liturgical foundations of religious life, a theme treated under its liturgical aspect in his recent Religious Life: A Living Liturgy. In this work, the author confines his discussion for the most part to biblical considerations and emphasizes the two virtues, fidelity and love, which are most amply demonstrated in the Bible and which are the basis for all progress in spirituality. The book is simple in style and practical in approach, explaining clearly how divine fidelity is reflected in the fidelity of the consecrated religious, and how God's love for man is the archetype of the love of the religious for God. Of the many books currently appearing on spirituality in the religious or monastic life, Father Hinnebusch's is probably the least pretentious and certainly one of the most effective and readable. Although its readership will be confined to sisters, brothers, monks, and chaplains of religious institutions, in that audience it should find the universal acceptance it deserves.
