South Africa...the Boer War...Mafeking under siege...and fresh from England and still fresh from an unconsummated marriage (he had a war wound), Lillie Willoughby devoted herself to Alice Partridge and her children, the hospital for the wounded, and Tom Wheeler, a hard-drinking Journalist with a wife and son in Capetown. Their love affair offends Alice but won't raise any eyebrows here, and all's well that ends--Tom is shot and Lillie is left to the doctor who will be a much better husband....Mary Paradise is Dorothy Eden and both these girls do better in the gothic genre.
