She's even more entertaining on second meeting than incidentally encountered in the pages of the New Yorker. The impact of her acidulous pencil, sharpness of thrust on the complacency of the passing show gathers with successive drawings. The Thurber preface is virtually a New Yorker biography -- not a Petty profile. Her captions and cartoons need no expansion -- they are all of a piece.
