With the additions of 7,000 new words and quite a few photographs (there are 35 of them here), the series of articles about the First Lady which appeared recently in Ladies' Home Journal has been transformed into a ""book"". Mrs. Thayer, who has known Mrs. Kennedy since she was a little girl, has developed her innocuous brand of journalese as a columnist with the Washington Post and as a contributor to several magazines. For those who missed the original series of articles, the (by now well-known) facts of the education and development of ""Jackie"" are interspersed with several of her ""Grampy Jack's"" wise admonitions in the form of letters which he sent to his granddaughter. Here too are a few of the First Lady's own poems which she wrote for various family occasions; and some comments quoted directly from Jackie herself about people who have greatly influenced her life. While this may have popular appeal in building the ""Jackie"" image one wonders whether it enhances its value.
