KIRKUS REVIEW

In the Drug Library series, a brief look at this depressant of choice in the Vietnam Warera and its modern descendant, Rohypnol, piggybacks an introduction to the causes, hazards, biochemistry, visible symptoms, and treatment of drug abuse in general. The writing is sometimes wooden: To an abuser, ``the appearance of space and distance from the top of a jump may be entirely false, as the jumper learns when the bottom is reached.'' Ziemer gathers information from both published sources and interviews with officials and former addicts, adding a series of discussion questions, plus hotline and address lists. Useful beyond its specific focus. (b&w illustrations, not seen, glossary, notes, further reading, index) (Nonfiction. 11-15)
