SA, which is not T.A. or T.M., but which is probably N*, is all about how to promote ""flow."" We thought ""flow"" was a philosophy created by Fats Domino (move with the groove; go with the flow; doe wah), but McKenna claims it's a scientific term for joyful feelings promoted by the right side of the brain. Certain ""flow"" experiencers, it appears, were surveyed by Chicago psychologist Dr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (""called Dr. C. hereafter,"" we were grateful to be told). During peak ""flow"" experiences, they informed him, they could merge with their environment and dance on the walls. Goodness knows, everyone wants to do that, so McKenna tells us how--with a series of ""mental"" exercises and checklists-and claims that we can also stop smoking, rid ourselves of other nasty habits, overcome nighttime anxiety and sleeplessness and romp with our lovers if we do them right. It all has to do with living from our ""haras."" 'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves . . . . *Sensory awareness; Transactional analysis; Transcendental Meditation; Nonsense.
