THE ADOLESCENT by Marynia Farnham

THE ADOLESCENT

By

Publisher: Harper

A less embattled handling of the physical and emotional problems of adolescence than her Modern Woman (co-authored with Ferdinand Lundberg in 1947- a sizeable seller). Dr. Farnham, an experienced psychiatrist, deals sympathetically, sensibly with that difficult period and the sources of friction it may provoke, shows the intensity and variability, the contrary drives and excesses, the self-concern and the need to conform, the hypercriticism and the secrecy which govern adolescent moods and responses. Adolescent social relationships; sexual behavior; family participation; the more serious drift into delinquency, homosexuality, psychoses or neuroses- fill out an interpretation of a troubled time which requires a particularly sensitive and knowing handling by the parent. A book which should have steady sale.
