A story in which art and basketball merge, this is an account of Emmett, an athletic star in his own backyard. When Emmett is asked to join a team, his playing becomes somewhat inhibited until a friendly artist intervenes and teaches him that fear is ninety-nine percent . Emmett repays his debt by helping the gentle painter achieve recognition. A departure from the straight sport yarn, the introduction of a secondary theme gives dimension to this ""best of all possible worlds"" story which should appeal, primarily, to aspiring school athletes. And the dual lesson it teaches--that art and manliness are not incompatible, and that lack of confidence has a cure--are well worth learning at the age for which this book is directed.
