KIRKUS REVIEW

Newcomer Marvin Allan has his troubles getting started with the boys on a small town grade school baseball team, and finds out luck isn't everything. After a mistakenly suspected theft of his bat, Marvin plays wonderfully when he gets it back. Then it breaks, but in a ruse a neighboring wood carver makes him another like it and confidence soars again, to remain high even after Marvin discovers the trick.
