KIRKUS REVIEW

I would give anything to play football on a team! But I can't! The guys would laugh me off the field!"" And so at first Billy Joe, who stutters, turns down Mr. Davis' offer even though he's a whiz playing with his brothers around the farm. But realizing that night that ""he wouldn't have to talk while he played,"" Billy Joe changes his mind, and though he doesn't start out all that well in his first game, he ends up winning both the game and his teammates' cheers by catching two different passes for touchdowns. Even easier, shorter and less dressed up than Christopher's usual recreation therapy, with awkwardly executed football-suited figures in black and white, all smeared hit or miss with yellow and a thick cherry red. A fumble.
