Matt Christopher is well out of his sporting element here, with this heartstring-shredding entertainment in which young, blind Andy and his setter Max are marooned on a desert island after a sailing accident and more than a few ""moments of unbelievable terror."" The island has the usual quota of quicksand, steep cliffs, fighting iguanas and unsavory visitors (two men who steal both Max and the food left in the wreckage). Fortunately, Max can understand English (""Okay, Max, take me to a small tree. I want to hang these up to dry"") and none of the crises is allowed to last more than several pages. The style is strictly wet behind the ears.
