THE DEVIL IN THE BUSH

Highly unusual fatal fare which depends on compelling atmosphere (the Belgian Congo) and sharp characterisation for effect. Hooper Taliaferro, American inspecting an agricultural station for war use, arrives in time for the funeral of its director and the presumably native revenge killing of his brother. Under the momentum of missionary Miss Fenor -- Hooper voors from black superstition and suspicion to a problem in adultery and its aftermath. Neat, sometimes bawdy, this is a very successful second showing.
