THE ROOSTER CROWS: A Book of American Rhymes & Jingles

I've seen only a ""sampler"" from this second volume in the Petersham's This Is America series- but that, plus the partial list of the inclusions and familiarity with the Petersham's skillful blend of decorative and illustrative drawings in color, combine to make me very sure that this is an important book on the season's listings. Nursery rhymes, counting out games, finger games, jingles -- American folk song material on a juvenile level- all of this is ideal kindergarten and story hour material, and good going to bed reading for parents, who want to make America's heritage part of a four and five year old's tradition. There are trn full pages in four color- 24 half pages, 2-color- and the text is set in bold, clear type.
