AN AMERICAN ABC

Here's a problem book. An ABC connotes picture book age -- or, at the other end of the scale, an adult introduction to a subject. The beautiful pictures, full pages in color, seems to stress the first interpretation, but the subject matter is independence democracy, freedom, a propaganda book built around history, biography, legend -- sometimes tenuous in connection. Perhaps, through this means, the idea of what America stands for will emerge, for youngsters who might pass it by.
