While this is an approach not geared to popular consumption and the conclusions are drawn from careful and scientific observation and closely recorded data, there is a good deal of entertaining information here for anyone whose interest lies in these directions. Dr. Burton avoids the areas where biological facts are still undergoing revision. As Deputy Keeper of Zoology at the British Museum, he has access to birds and animals not commonly available, but has also included his observations on infancy patterns and parental care of such ordinary creatures as the yellowhammer, the barnyard chickens, a pet squirrel and a rabbit. But the most interesting facts are the result of observing the infant kangaroo, dolphin, wild pigs, etc. Parental control and protection, feeding, etc., are discussed.
