KIRKUS REVIEW

Thomasheen James was a graceless rascal, with a glib tongue, a grand imagination, and an adroit way of putting his listener in the wrong and winning his shilling and his pint -- and even forgiveness and a fishing jaunt. This is a series of stories built around him (and the author's experiences with him), -- tall tales, with lots of humor, imagination -- and the scents and sounds and sights of Ireland. Most of the material ran as short stories in the Post.
