An enriched encyclopedia account of Canada past and present--dry, orderly, informed. Covers climate, topography and resources by region; history in a succinct and sensible survey; the Variety of people from coast to coast; transportation and communication as consequences of distance and terrain; government in historical perspective and in comparison with American practice; cities (at least a paragraph; often more, on the dozen or so largest); sports (lacrosse, hockey from backyard rink to the big time, curling as a social focus, etc.); education and the assorted arts (especially literature and the contemporary communicators, CBC and National Film Board). Nothing on McLuhan and little on current issues but otherwise everything that the teacher ordered.
