NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS

A random, relaxed and thoroughly insouciant autobiographical account, this is a once-over-lightly of Max Miller's life. From a childhood in Everett, Washington which entailed cow-tending and newspaper- paddling, to Conrad, Montana, where his father ""located"" as a homesteader; high school- and then the Navy (at 17- just turning 18) for the first war; working his way through the University of Washington- and the decision to write for the popular magazines which didn't quite pan out as he found himself newspaper- reporting in Melbourne, Australia. His itinerant career continued; a trip to the Solomons; back to San Diego and the waterfront beat which generated his first (published) book; China; Hollywood for six weeks; Pearl Harbor and the Navy for the duration of this last war; and once again, a reporter in California... The casual, effortless and sometimes funny touch here gives this its special quality and easy charm.
