A motley collection, this annual, since inevitably it covers so varied a collection of broadcasts as political speeches, humorous skits, soap opera, serious drama, readings from short stories and books, commentators' scripts, etc. As with all such collections, inevitably one wonders why this was included, why that excluded. The Quiz Kids -- but not Information, Please. Swing and Murrow, but not Quincy Howe and Shirer, and so on. Fred Allen is here, Jack Benny, Rudy Vallee. Fibber McGee and Molly appear, as does also Maudie's Diary, Vic and Sade, Ma Perkins. Churchill's speech before the joint session of Congress, and Roosevelt's Address to the Nation. Some of the sketches prepared for the O F F; representative pieces by the Columbia Workshop, the Authors' Playhouse, and so on. Good material for writing groups working on radio.
