COSTUME PATTERNS AND DESIGNS by Max Tilke

COSTUME PATTERNS AND DESIGNS

By

Publisher: Frederick A. Praeger

This scholarly reference work encompasses research into the costumes of all nations from antiquity forward. The author, Max Tilke, well known for his earlier publications on the history of costume design, undertook this volume as a companion and supplement to his A Pictorial History of Costume. A hundred and twenty eight full color and black and white illustrations give examples of the evolution of clothing. Detailed annotations indicate specific fabrics and materials used in decorations. Enlargements of border and all-over patterns afford many suggestions for those interested in costume design or fashion. Mr. Tilke did not live to complete the book. Commentary by Dr. Wolfgang Bruhn defines the relationships between the clothing of different countries and eras.
