A bachelor poodle Named Archibald Swank, In a new Model T With a handle you crank Drove daily through Paris Along the Left Bank until he decided, with car engine and lively verse right on the beat, to travel through the cities of Europe and Asia in search of a French poodle wife. Archibald's brief jaunts through Warsaw, Rome, Constantinople, and other cities will be met with the approval and laughter of the picture book set. The artist's full color illustrations are freely executed, and embody the kind of humor and clarity which will appeal, but unfortunately, Mr. Holle crowds his exuberance onto the pages, making the pictures unnecessarily busy. Maxine Kumin is the author of No One Writes A Letter to the Snail (1962, p. 911, J-267) and other pleasing books in verse for the very young.
