KIRKUS REVIEW

A boy and girl spend the Fourth of July on a picnic in the woods gathering all the small creatures they can find into an improvised zoo-boat. The rainstorm which scatters their collection serves as a reminder that creatures of the outdoors cannot be imprisoned for very long. This main idea is muddled in a network of side details (eating, making a story book, watching fireworks) robbing the rhymed verse of its intended impact.
