THE COMPLETE BOOK OF PUPPY TRAINING AND CARE

In the over-populated area of books on dogs, their care and training, this, focussed specifically on puppyhood, has certain advantages. In a worthy and commendable cause it emphasizes, repeats and instructs on raising a ""good citizen"" and on the responsibilities of an equally good owner, and there is a lot of commonsense material on early training, for both small and large participants, on preventing bad habits, on matters of good manners, proper neighborhood relations, encounters with strange dogs -- and people. Other subjects include whether or not you are competent to have a canine in your life; what kind of a dog; when to buy and how to choose a puppy; preparations for it and guidance for the first days in the new home. There are the matters of food, exercise, shots and vermin, bathing and grooming, and all types of health problems; there is more on advanced training, early hunting training, and dog shows for puppies, etc., etc. Definitely for the first time owner -- before and after acquiring a four-legged addition to the family.
