THE STORY OF THE SOUTH WEST

The publishers indicate that this is for a 5 year old starting level, but it has a definitely older appeal. It is a lovely looking volume in the Regions Of America series. A simple summary of the history of the section right up to modern times is interspersed with stories about children living in this area. The Indians, their gods, religions, taboos, are important but the outstanding quality of the book is in the carefully detailed, gorgeously colored lithographs and the lively bands of black and white on the wide margins by Cornelius De Witt.
